Developer buys 1,500 acres

More than 1,000 acres of land formerly owned by the U.S. Air Force has been purchased by a Massachusetts-based developer.

Western Maine Realty, a company owned by Jay Cashman, chairman of the board for construction company Jay Cashman Inc. of Quincy, Mass., bought 1,500 acres in Moscow for $730,000, according to the Morning Sentinel. The land was once used as a radar base by the Air Force and includes four buildings, according to a U.S. General Services Administration spokesman.

The facility was used by the Air Force to scan for Soviet missiles and planes and closed in the 1990s, according to the paper. No plans for the property were disclosed, although the property has been considered for possible wind power development.
