The Scarborough-based construction firm Risbara Bros. has set its sights on building nine new apartment buildings at the Blue Spruce Farm subdivision in Westbrook.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the nine buildings would add 108 market-rate apartment units to the almost 200 single-family homes and apartments currently being built at the subdivision.
Not everyone supported the expanded development, with some residents questioning the impact it would have on nearby schools and roads, while others said they wanted to see a mix of condos and single-family housing in the expanded plans, according to the Press Herald.
“We know we’re meeting a need,” Risbara Bros. President Rocco Risbara told the Press Herald. “We know we’ve got some neighborhood opposition, but we’re going to continue through the process. We’re going to listen. We’re going to try to meet all of the requests that we can.”
