Average winter still brings higher gas prices, demand
The U.S. Energy Information Office released its Winter Energy Outlook for the upcoming season, and despite its prediction of an average winter this year, the organization says consumers will be using and paying more for gas this heating season compared to the prior season.
That’s because last season had a considerably milder winter, with the EIO reporting that the 2016-17 heating season will be 16% to 18% colder than the prior season.
Unfortunately, the bad news for consumer’s wallets will be further escalated by the higher fuel prices the EIO is predicting for the coming heating season.
Weekly energy survey
The Governor's Energy Office conducted its weekly heating fuel price survey on Oct. 17 and found the current statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil was $2.01, an 8-cent increase from the Oct. 5 heating survey.
The average statewide price for kerosene is also on the rise, as the energy office reported that the heating fuel rose by 8 cents from the same survey to $2.51.
Propane prices also rose since the Oct. 5 survey to $2.25, a 6-cent increase.
