Developers halt Bath condo project

The developers of a controversial condominium complex in Bath have put the project on hold indefinitely because of a weak real estate market, the Times Record in Brunswick reported yesterday.

John Hall and Edwin Rogers had planned to demolish an existing building on Commercial Street in Bath and build at least 24 condominiums valued at $750,000 each. The pair instead will develop the existing building into shops, offices and apartments, the paper said.

Hall and Rogers had pursued the project for two years, finally getting town approval to rezone the property for the 65-foot-tall buildings in November 2006. While they initially had up to 30 interested buyers, recently only about six people said they would consider buying a condo, the paper reported.
