A Portland-based developer is teaming up with one from Virginia to build a 68,710-square-foot medical clinic on the city’s western waterfront.
J.B. Brown & Sons and FD Stonewater, of Arlington, Va., broke ground last Friday on the clinic, at 141 West Commercial St., which will house services provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021, according to a news release. The energy-efficient building will allow the VA to consolidate services from leased clinic spaces at 144 Fore St. in Portland and 655 Main St. in Saco.
The VA awarded the contract for undisclosed terms to a joint venture of the two developers last fall.
SmithGroup, headquartered in Michigan, is the architect, and Scarborough-based Landry/French Construction is the general contractor. Gorrill Palmer, of South Portland, will provide civil engineering services. NBT Bank is the lender for the project.
Ben Dineen, principal at FD Stonewater, said in the release, “These facilities are essential to ensure our veterans have improved access to the care they deserve.
"We are proud to work alongside the VA team and our project partners to develop this project, especially one that will have a meaningful impact on the city of Portland and surrounding communities.”
