The Tillson peninsula isn’t the only neighborhood in Rockland experiencing a wave of resurgence through development, as several new businesses are set to open in the city’s downtown over the next few months.
Just how popular is downtown Rockland? Rockland Main Street Executive Director Gordon Page Sr. told the Bangor Daily News that the high demand for prime real estate has meant waiting lists for certain properties.
“I get a lot of calls. People realize the upward mobility of the city of Rockland, particularly its downtown,” Page told the BDN.
May alone has already seen the opening of The Art Loft community arts center, while May 13 will serve as the opening date for Hops and Chops, a new butcher shop on 77 Park St., and a new restaurant, the Broken Egg, is slated to open on May 18, according to the BDN.
June will also bring the opening of Gelato Rose and an Italian ice shop named Ice Blossoms, both at 497 Main St., just a short walk from Rockland’s bustling ferry terminal. A new men’s consignment store, Curator, is also slated to open at 385 Main St.
Eateries and retail stores aren’t the only businesses benefiting from the popularity of Rockland’s downtown. On Monday, the city’s tallest building, the 250 Main Hotel, opened its doors and the newly renovated Navigator Motor Inn is set to open before Memorial Day as the Rockland Harbor Hotel, according to the BDN.
