Diversified Communications has been recognized as the “business of the year” by the Portland Development Corp. for its role as one of the largest employers in the city’s downtown and for engagement within the local community.
Diversified is an international media company that employs 200 at its 121 Free St. offices. According to a news release, its community engagement efforts include paid volunteer time for employees as well as contributions to local nonprofit organizations as nominated by employees and through an annual fundraising program, with a company match to MaineShare and the United Way.
The PDC recognized two other award recipients for their efforts within the city. The Maine College of Art was awarded the “Economic Achievement Award” and Maine Standard Biofuels was recognized with the “Small Business of the Year Award.”
“We are honored to be recognized and in such good company,” Diversified President and CEO Ted Wirth said in a prepared statement. “Our neighbors at MECA are the cornerstone of creativity and vitality in our city and Standard Biofuels is helping to eliminate waste and provide clean energy options for all of us.”
Diversified, MECA and Maine Standard Biofuels will be recognized and receive their awards at the Portland Development Corp.’s annual business awards celebration on Thursday at the Ocean Gateway in Portland
