There's an adage heard in some Maine towns that if you complain about something you might just be volunteered to help change it.
The city of Portland put out a call this week seeking volunteers for a wide range of committees.
There are openings on the Zoning Board of Appeals, Housing Authority, Rent Board, Fish Exchange, Board of Assessment Review and Historic Preservation committees, among others.
Committee members vote on key issues and make recommendations to city staff and City Council. Members are generally required to demonstrate residency and some expertise in the chosen area.
A dozen committees need members. Terms range from one to three years.
