Down East sells book division

The Rockport-based Down East Enterprise Inc., publisher of Down East magazine, has sold its book division to a Washington, D.C. company.

The company announced in a press release that it completed the sale of its book division to Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group April 1. The sale price was not disclosed.

The sale includes Down East Books, Shooting Sportsman Press, Fly Rod & Reel Books and Countrysport Press.

Down East said that the three employees working in its book division, including editor Michael Steere, have been hired by R&L and will remain in their current Rockport offices.

Down East said all of its titles set for publication in 2013 remain on schedule.

Those publications will become part of the approximately 1,400 titles that R&L plans to release this year under the imprints Rowman & Littlefield, Scarecrow Press, Lexington Books and Sundance-Newbridge.
