U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, representing Maine's 1st District, has confirmed she's no longer considering a run for governor in 2014.
The Bangor Daily News reported late Friday that Pingree, a Democrat, has decided against running for that office, saying the impact of federal cuts have kept her focus on representing the state at the national level.
That leaves her 2nd District counterpart, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, and former Gov. John Baldacci as the most prominent Democrats considering runs. Neither has yet filed to run in 2014 nor confirmed their intentions, although Baldacci told the BDN earlier that he has been waiting for Pingree and Michaud to make clear their plans for a Blaine House run, likely against incumbent Republican Gov. Paul LePage and Independent Eliot Cutler. Neither Cutler nor LePage have made formal announcements that they are running but both have formed campaign committees.
The Democratic ticket now has one name on it. TideSmart Global CEO Steve Woods, a Yarmouth town councilor, announced his candidacy in November.
