Downtown building could be taken by Bangor

The city of Bangor may take over the 30,000-square-foot Central Building in the city’s downtown at 73 Central St.

The Bangor Daily News reports that David Little, Bangor’s tax collector and deputy treasurer, said there are six liens against the building totaling approximately $35,000, during a Finance Committee meeting on Monday night.

Additionally, the BDN reports that the building’s owner, David S. Boyd of California, owes roughly $33,600 in real estate taxes and slightly less than $1,000 in downtown development taxes. An additional $300 is also owed in unpaid sewer charges.

The building has an assessed value of $477,500, according to the BDN. Bangor’s City Council will make a decision about taking possession of the building at a future meeting.
