The Skowhegan Economic Development Corp. is selling a .2 acre lot that recently housed the Kennebec River Inn.

SKOWHEGAN — The Skowhegan Economic Development Corp. is marketing a lot in the center of town that until recently housed the historic Kennebec Valley Inn.
The three-story clapboard building had been on the site since 1904, replacing another hotel that was moved there from Water Street in 1901. The building, which has been empty since 2011, had fallen into disrepair and the SEDC bought it in March for $73,000, ultimately spending $147,000, including asbestos abatement and the tear-down, which happened in July.
The 0.2 acre lot is being listed for $129,900, and SEDC is accepting proposals for commercial or mixed-use development of the lot. The SEDC doesn’t have a listing agent for the property.
Part of revitalization effort
The lot, which is connected to town sewer and water, is a block from Water Street and Madison Avenue, the town’s two main downtown roads, and adjacent to municipal parking and Mainely Grains at the Somerset Grist Mill.
"The renewal of this lot just adds to the ongoing revitalization efforts in Skowhegan," said Jeff Hewett, SEDC executive director. "This is prime real estate in the heart of downtown, and we're looking forward to reviewing proposals for a commercial or mixed-use development that will augment economic growth in Skowhegan."
