After nine years of leadership at Icelandic shipping company Eimskip USA, Larus Isfeld is stepping down as managing director.
Eimskip said Friday that Andrew Haines, vice president of marketing and sales, will serve as interim manager during the transition, amid the company’s plans to expand its port operations in Portland as part of the company’s global network.
“Eimskip is grateful for the exemplary work and leadership Mr. Isfeld has provided for nearly a decade, Eimskip CEO Gylfi Sigfusson said in a statement. “We have benefited greatly from the constant push Larus has provided us to continue growing our United States offering."
Eimskip brought container shipping back to Portland in 2013 where it now calls weekly and has a partnership with CMA CGM that has opened up market opportunities for Maine and northern New England to China and the Far East.
The personnel change comes as the Maine Department of Transportation continues to seek partners for a waterfront cold-storage warehouse, about three months after Americold Realty Trust (NYSE: COLD) bowed out of the long-awaited project.
