Electricity rates to rise for BHE customers

Transmission rates are increasing for customers of Bangor Hydro Electric Co. because of an annual adjustment. The increase, which went into effect Friday, affects residential, industrial and commercial customers.

The changes for commercial and industrial customers will vary for each company, while residents will see a 1.36% increase, according to the Bangor Daily News. That's equivalent to $1.10 for an average monthly bill of $81. Transmission costs make up about 15% of customers' electricity bills and are for the movement of electricity from power plants to substations.

Bangor Hydro regularly adjusts transmission rates at this time of year, it said in a statement.
