EMCC hires new president

Eastern Maine Community College has appointed Lawrence Barrett from Purdue University North Central in Indiana as its new president.
Barrett, vice chancellor of enrollment management and student services at the Indiana university, succeeds Joyce Hedlund as head of the Bangor college, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. Hedlund is leaving EMCC after 16 years as president to take the same position at Washington County Community College in Calais. Barrett's appointment was endorsed yesterday by the Maine Community College System board of trustees.
Barrett will begin his new job in August.
