The former executive director of the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce who was dismissed in 2008 has settled a defamation lawsuit over an anonymous survey.
Claire Adams received an undisclosed monetary settlement that ends a February lawsuit she filed against the person who distributed a survey regarding her performance to chamber members, according to the Herald Gazette. The chamber's board of directors in April 2008 dismissed Adams for unspecified reasons, three days after the survey was sent to 450 chamber members. In the lawsuit, Adams alleged the survey published false, disparaging statements about her, including that she was responsible for declining revenues and membership and that she poorly managed events and staff. Board President Tammy Kolmosky said at the time the survey didn't influence the board's decision to let Adams go.
A judge in San Mateo County, Calif., in July issued a draft order saying that Adams had proved she was defamed and ordering SurveyMonkey.com LLC to disclose information on the individual who distributed the survey. That person's identity was not publicly revealed.
