Ex-manager sentenced for stealing $60K

The former office manager of a West Bath-based construction company has been sentenced to one year in jail for stealing nearly $60,000 from the company.

Dale Marshall last month pleaded guilty to embezzling $59,052 from J.R. Hill and Sons Inc., according to The Associated Press. He was sentenced to five years in jail with all but one suspended. He must also pay restitution and serve three years of probation.

According to an investigation, Marshall took money that was earmarked for payments to vendors. He worked at J.R. Hill from 2007 to 2011, and last September went to the sheriff's department to confess stealing from the company. Marshall allegedly also compensated himself for fraudulent vacation time, an activity that led J.R. Hill and Sons' owners to conduct an internal audit after he was fired for not meeting job demands.
