Ex-MBNA employees on "Nightline"

Two former midcoast employees of credit card giant MBNA were tapped by ABC News "Nightline" to discuss the country's growing credit card debt on national television.

Cate Colombo and Jerry Young, who both worked as customer service representatives at MBNA's Camden call center, talked about the now-defunct company's predatory lending practices, which included selling lines of credit to people who could not afford to pay it back, according to ABC News. Colombo and Young said practices such as those have contributed to the country's current economic crisis and the $960 billion Americans owe in credit card debt. Bank of America, which bought MBNA in 2005, said the company does not participate in predatory lending practices, according to ABC News.

"Nightline" plans to air a continuation of the story, which will focus on ways to avoid credit card debt, tonight at 11:35 p.m.
