Godfrey Wood, former CEO of the Portland Regional Chamber, is expected to open the Freeport Public Market on Thursday at noon, with a focus on locally owned eateries.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the new market will include a full Amato’s restaurant, along with kiosks for Café Crêpe, Peachy’s Smoothie and Juice Bar and Kamasouptra, all of which are locally owned and operated.
The 3,400-square-foot building is located at 20 Bow St., the site of the former Fresh Batch Restaurant, near the L.L. Bean Flagship Store on Route 1. The building has 40 indoor seats and an additional 40-45 seats for a patio outside.
Wood retired from his 15-year chamber post in December 2012, and later became executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland in April 2013. He is the managing owner of a restaurant group that runs Johnny Rockets franchises in Freeport and South Portland.
