A company with offices in Gardiner will continue to print the state's lottery tickets for at least another year while a competitor's appeal of a long-term contract continues in court.
Scientific Games has been given a one-year extension of its contract with the state's Bureau of Alcoholic and Beverage & Lottery Operations to operate lottery ticket systems through June 2012, according to the Kennebec Journal. Meanwhile, oral arguments are due to begin July 7 in a case filed by Greece-based competitor Intralot, which was initially awarded a six-year, $35 million contract for the work in September, but lost the bid in an appeal filed by Scientific Games. Now Intralot is challenging that decision in Kennebec County Superior Court. Scientific Games, which is based in Georgia and employs 20 in Maine, argued the bids had been scored unfairly when the state awarded the work to low bidder Intralot.
Betty Lamoreau, acting director of the Bureau of General Services, told the paper she couldn't speculate on what the state's next move would be until the court issues a ruling.
