Fairchild HQ may leave South Portland

With the lease on its South Portland headquarters expiring at the end of 2009, Fairchild Semiconductor is looking for a new home.

The company is eyeing properties in the Greater Portland area to accommodate the roughly 300 employees in its main office, according to the Portland Press Herald. Among the properties the company is looking at is a 90,000-square-foot building planned for the Gateway at Scarborough by developer New England Expedition LLC. "That's our first choice," Fairchild spokeswoman Patti Olson told Mainebiz. Olson wouldn't say what other properties Fairchild is considering.

The company also operates a fabrication facility on Western Avenue in South Portland.
