Voters approve transportation bond

An almost $30 million bond for public transportation improvements was passed by voters statewide on June 10.

The $29.7 million will be used to repair and rebuild roads, bridges, dams, landfills and other public facilities and is the third in a three-part, $295 million borrowing package, much of which will be used to upgrade transportation infrastructure. With 53% of precincts reporting, 59% of voters were in favor of the bond and 41% were opposed, according to the Associated Press. The official tally will not be released by the state Bureau of Elections until next month.

The borrowing package will leverage another $29.8 million in additional funds and generate interest estimated at $8.6 million, the AP reported.
