FairPoint Communications sent a letter to the Vermont Public Service Board Monday, denying allegations that it rigged a demonstration of its software capabilities to prove its readiness to switch over operations from Verizon.
The North Carolina-based company's attorney denied the allegation that was made anonymously to Vermont's Attorney General in mid-August. "Despite the inherent difficulty in responding to anonymous allegations, FairPoint takes these allegations very seriously, and engaged outside attorneys to conduct an investigation," said David Hauser, CEO of FairPoint, in a release. "The outside attorneys have found no evidence to support the allegations of a fraudulent or fabricated testing process or that FairPoint misled Liberty [Consulting Group] about the testing results."
An e-mail alleged that during live system presentations to the Liberty consultants hired by regulators to assure FairPoint's readiness, the telecommunications company used a series of screen shots to mislead them into believing that they were watching a real demonstration of system capabilities. FairPoint acknowledges it used screen shots in the testing because it had minimal access from Verizon to test against live networks, a fact it said it disclosed to the consultants and the board.
