Falmouth businessman gets jail time for tax fraud

A Falmouth businessman who led a now-defunct poker chip manufacturer has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for tax evasion.

The Portland Press Herald reported that John Kendall, former president of Yarmouth-based Chipco International, remains free on personal recognizance as he plans to appeal his conviction. Kendall was found guilty in March on several counts of tax fraud in Cumberland County Superior Court.

During Kendall’s sentencing, Justice Thomas Warren also ordered Kendall to serve three years of probation after his release and to pay a $51,663 fine. The case’s prosecutor had been seeking a longer prison sentence of 18 to 24 months.
