Falmouth-based ergonomic equipment provider Southworth International Group has acquired a Swedish manufacturer of similar equipment.
Southworth announced Tuesday it had acquired the stock of Marco Group AB in Ängelholm, Sweden, for an undisclosed price. Marco Group AB, founded in 1935, is the European market leader in the manufacturing of hydraulic lifting tables.
Brian McNamara, president of Southworth International Group, said in a statement that the Swedish company’s extensive product line, management team and solid base of operations is a natural fit with Southworth. The acquisition allows Southworth to expand into European and Asian markets more quickly and supplements its existing product supply in China, McNamara said.
"Between the strong presence in the European market and the extensive manufacturing capabilities globally, we feel that we can gain a competitive position not only overseas but domestically as well,” he said.
Southworth’s product lines include ergonomic work-positioning tables, portable lifts, container tilters, and pallet-handling equipment. The company is headquartered in Falmouth, but its principal manufacturing facilities are in Manila, Ark.
