The U.S. Economic Development Administration has awarded $280,000 in grants to development initiatives across Maine to spur local job growth.
The grants will help create an “economic roadmap to diversify and strengthen regional economies,” according to a press release from U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, I-Maine. “By leveraging private investments, they will help to create strategic plans that will improve and support economic development in communities across the state and lead to the creation of jobs,” they said in a joint statement.
Grants of $70,000 each will go to Northern Maine Development Corporation for Aroostook and Washington counties; Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments for Androscoggin, Franklin and northern Oxford counties; Kennebec Valley Council of Governments for Kennebec, Somerset and western Waldo counties; and Eastern Maine Development Corporation for Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and eastern Waldo counties.
The EDA recently lent $500,000 to a $1.1 million revolving loan program for York and Oxford counties. It was matched with $600,000 from the Biddeford-Saco Economic Development Corp.
