A proposed $900,000 facility in Dover-Foxcroft could employ up to 100 people if it receives state funding to cover half of its development costs.
The Bangor Daily News reported that GLOBEco Maine LLC, a Scarborough-based firm, is seeking a $450,000 community development block grant from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. The grant’s winning applicant will be named in June.
The proposed Dover-Foxcroft facility would produce a wood fiber-based cleaning cloth called “Durafresh,” which is “an affordable, reusable antimicrobial cleansing tool that maintains key consumer properties,” according to the company’s website. The product, which the company claims rinses 99% of germs after running under water, would compete in the $5 billion cleaning cloth and $2 billion disinfectant wipe markets.
GLOBEco is proposing to open its facility at a site formerly used by Creative Apparel, a garment company that closed a few months ago. If awarded the grant, the company would have to begin operations within a year of receiving the funds.
