Three Maine airports are receiving a total of more than $4 million in federal grants for infrastructure improvements.
U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced Friday that the Federal Aviation Administration is awarding $1.2 million to the Bangor International Airport and $350,000 to the Northern Maine Regional Airport at Presque Isle. They also said the Portland International Jetport is receiving $2.5 million, which was first announced last week.
“Maine’s airports serve as critical links between our communities and help to propel economic development throughout our state,” Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This crucial funding will provide Portland, Bangor, and Presque Isle with the support they need to continue to operate their airports as efficiently, effectively and safely as possible.”
The Portland and Bangor airports will use the funds to rehabilitate their runway pavement, while Northern Maine Regional Airport will use its funds to buy new snow removal equipment.
