Two Maine-based financial institutions are adding to the growing number of branches in the state, one in Ellsworth and one in Brewer.
First out of the gate is Bangor Federal Credit Union with a new branch in Ellsworth, which brings its total to four. A spokeswoman told Mainebiz on Monday that the credit union employs four people full-time at its new Ellsworth location out of 46 total at the institution.
Grand opening events are planned from Nov. 1-5, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce on Monday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m.
"On behalf of our employees and members of the board of directors, we're excited to be opening our fourth full-service branch office," said Bangor Federal Credit Union CEO Basil Closson in a news release. "We are pleased to expand our presence and introduce Bangor Federal and our competitive products and services to the residents and business owners of Hancock County."
Bangor FCU serves members who live in, work, worship or attend school in Penobscot, Hancock and Waldo counties, as well as businesses and other legal entities based there.
First National Bank, the subsidiary of Damariscotta-based First Bancorp. Inc. (Nasdaq: FNLC), is also enlarging its physical footprint with a leased space at 5 Parkway South in Brewer.
Due to open in the first quarter of 2022, the Brewer branch will be First National Bank’s second branch in Penobscot County, in addition to Bangor.
The new location will be a full-service branch office offering personal and business banking services along with investment services from First National Wealth Management, a division of First National Bank.
“First National Bank is elated to expand into the Brewer community,” said Tony C. McKim, president and CEO of First National Bank. “We’re deeply committed to serving individuals, families and businesses throughout Penobscot County.”
First National was ranked No. 4 in a Mainebiz list of the largest Maine-based banks, ranked by total assets as of Dec. 31, 2020; that puts it behind Bangor Savings Bank, Camden National Bank and Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, respectively.
The timing of the Brewer branch opening is subject to customary legal and regulatory approvals. Information on the number of employees First National plans to employ at its Brewer branch was not immediately available.
First National Bank operates in Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, Hancock, Washington and Penobscot counties.
