Fire destroys Sidney log home facility

A log home company in Sidney was the site of a weekend fire that caused $2 million in damages.

The fire broke out at Hilltop Log and Timber Home's manufacturing facility around 1 a.m. Sunday and was put out by firefighters from Sidney and several other towns nearly 12 hours later, according to Portland news channel WCSH 6. The fire set off three explosions and destroyed the building. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, but a wood drying kiln was reported to be in operation overnight.

The 27-year-old company designs and manufactures log and timber frame homes, and in 2008 bought the Sidney property from defunct Dostie's Log Homes. The property includes a 5,780-square-foot model home, garage, workshop and the destroyed manufacturing building.
