Fisher Engineering seeks Rockland expansion

Snowplow manufacturer Fisher Engineering wants to expand its Rockland plant by more than a third as its parent company prepares to close one of three plants in the United States.

Fisher has submitted an application to add 53,200 square feet to its 141,940-square-foot plant in the city's industrial park, VillageSoup reported. The project is expected to cost as much as $4 million and would add an undetermined number of jobs at the Rockland plant, which employs about 180 people. The planning board will consider the proposal next Friday.

Fisher's parent company, Douglas Dynamics, announced a month ago that it would close its Johnson City, Tenn., plant by September 2010 and shift work to the Rockland and Milwaukee, Wis., plants, the news site reported.
