Five Maine companies receive accolades for worker safety

Portland-based workers’ compensation insurer MEMIC presented awards for workplace safety to 10 of its more than 20,000 policyholders, including five companies from Maine.
“As we traveled throughout the eastern United States presenting these safety awards, I was struck by how alike the company cultures are in spite of how diverse the work they do is,” MEMIC’s senior vice president of loss control and safety services, Karl Siegfried, said in a statement about the awards. “Every safety award-winner talks about and treats their employees like they are family, with tremendous passion for what they do and compassion for who they work with.”
The Maine businesses honored were:
- The First National Bank of Damariscotta
- Good Shepherd Food Bank of Auburn
- InterMed, P.A. of Portland
- Lumbra Hardwoods, Inc. of Milo
- Ridgewood Estates LLC of Madawaska
