FocusMaine, a private-sector organization, working to create jobs in the food economy and bioeconomy, has hired Joanna Benoit as its new finance, grants, and administration manager.
Benoit brings a variety of experience to her role. She has spent most of career managing grant-funded projects across the public, non-profit and private sectors.
She's managed annual budgets of up to $11 million and grants totaling $17 million.
Prior to joining FocusMaine, Benoit also spent a brief period in public health working at Maine's Office of Behavioral Health.
Benoit is actively engaged in community service, serving on Freeport’s Town Council. She supports local economic development programs and advocates for improved decision-making processes.
In addition, she serves as the vice chair of the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System policy board, which is responsible for collaboratively developing and endorsing transportation plans for the greater Portland region.
The Freeport resident received her bachelor’s degree in food systems and policy from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and her master’s degree in policy, planning and management from the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service.
