Maine Career Catalyst, a workforce development program run in partnership between Educate Maine and FocusMaine, has enrolled over 3,200 summer interns across over 140 Maine employers since the program’s start in 2017.

In 2024, a survey of participants showed that 75% responded that the program improved their internship experience, according to a news release.

Maine employers hosting summer interns are invited to enroll their interns for this summer.

The program launched in 2017 and by 2021 had served nearly 2,000 students, working with nearly 90 Maine employers.

By 2023, the program had enrolled over 2,700 interns.

Maine Career Catalyst helps develop a hub of talent for businesses by providing interns with workshops, skill-building opportunities, exploration activities and other professional development.

Throughout the summer, approximately 20 events are hosted virtually and in-person designed to incorporate networking, exposure to Maine companies and social connections, enhancing interns’ career readiness and allowing them to envision a career in Maine.

“They have enticed me to move to Maine permanently because of them exposing us to the diverse career opportunities and beautiful landscapes available in Maine,” said one intern.

Another commented, “It opened my mind about how many opportunities are here and that you don’t have to go to Boston/NYC for good opportunities.”
