Forecasting panel member to resign

At the urging of Gov. Paul LePage, Lawrence Dwight Jr. is resigning as a member of the state's Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission following a domestic violence charge.

Dwight, appointed to the commission earlier this year, was arrested over the weekend in Wilton after an incident involving his wife and released on $250 bail, according to the Sun Journal. Dwight told the paper the incident was a "complete mistake," but LePage called for him to "voluntarily step down from his position while the legal issues regarding his recent arrest are pending." Dwight told the paper he will resign.

The Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission meets two or three times a year to analyze economic trends and submit reports on the state's economy to the Revenue Forecasting Committee, governor and legislators that are used to help shape the state budget. Dwight was appointed to the commission by the other four members, who were chosen by LePage and legislative leaders.
