Former Bangor Savings, MPBN leader dies

Paul James Dowe Jr., a former CEO of Bangor Savings Bank and the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, has died after a battle with cancer at the age of 64, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Dowe served as CEO at Bangor Savings Bank from 1995 to 2006 and as CEO of MPBN from 2006 to 2012, when he retired.

Jim Goff, chairman of the bank’s board, told the paper Monday that Dowe led Bangor Savings through its first major expansion in 1998, when it acquired 28 former Fleet Bank branches that more than doubled its existing 15 branches. In 2003, he was named Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year.

The paper reported that Dowe is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, daughters, Caitlin and Erika, and son, PJ.
