Former UMA president dies

Richard Randall, who retired in March as president of the University of Maine at Augusta, died over the weekend from esophageal cancer.

Randall, 65, spent 40 years at the university, beginning in 1967 when he was hired as a sociology professor, according to Blethen Maine News Service. Randall retired in 2001, but returned four years later as associate provost and became, soon after, university president.
