The former owner of a Waterville medical marijuana business was sentenced Monday in Bangor federal court to 27 months in prison for drug and firearm charges.
Daniel Hall, 32, of Benton, had pled guilty in January to distribution of cocaine and marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of firearms by an unlawful user of controlled substances.
Hall was previously the owner of Green Thumb Organics, a medical marijuana store at 45 Armory Road, Waterville.
On Jan. 29, 2020, he distributed cocaine and marijuana at his business to a confidential informant who did not have a medical marijuana patient card, Acting U.S. Attorney Donald E. Clark said in a news release.
Investigators later conducted federal search warrants at Green Thumb and at Hall’s residence and seized roughly 3 pounds of processed marijuana and edible marijuana items, $16,000 in cash proceeds, a video surveillance system, drug paraphernalia, two shotguns, a handgun and ammunition.
“This was a great collaborative effort that resulted in the successful investigation and prosecution of Daniel Hall,” Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said in the release. “This was an important case because Mr. Hall owned and operated a medical marijuana business in Waterville where he illegally sold marijuana and other illegal drugs.”
In addition to his prison term and forfeiting the cash and firearms, Hall was sentence to 3 years of supervised release.
Waterville police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration investigators were assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office in the case.
