Officials with Franklin Community Health Network say the western Maine hospital network is on track to operate in the black by 2016.
The Sun Journal reported that Franklin Community Health Network President and CEO Rebecca Arsenault told attendees at the network’s annual meeting Monday that the organization’s first year in the Portland-based MaineHealth System has resulted in cost savings, shared resources, successes and challenges.
Arsenault said implemented changes and a positive financial margin for the past four months will likely reduce an anticipated $3 million operating loss to $700,000 this year.
Joseph Bujold, past chairman of the board of directors, said that while rural hospitals are closing at a high rate, the Franklin County network of health care providers is nowhere near closing.
The network includes Franklin Memorial Hospital, Franklin Health, Evergreen Behavioral Services, Healthy Community Coalition and NorthStar ambulance service, and serves a local population of about 40,000, according to the Sun Journal.
