Freeport's Jameson Tavern gets new operator

Freeport's historic Jameson Tavern has a new operator that plans to reopen the restaurant before the July 4th weekend.

The Portland Press Herald reported Tom Hincks, the former owner of the Fisherman's Grill in Portland, finalized a five-year lease for the restaurant this week.

The restaurant, which closed abruptly in February, had been operated by Jack Stiles for more than 30 years.

Stiles began to make improvements to the building late last year and brought in a new tenant for a space in the front of the building, but broker Matthew Cardente said in February that the repositioning of the property was not enough to stave off the closure.
