Two years after it was first announced, Blaze Pizza is finally opening in Scarborough next to the new Starbucks at 451 Payne Road.

Blaze Pizza is known for its “fast-fire’d,” build-your-own pies, which offer artisanal ingredients and options for those with dietary restrictions. According to the Boulos Co., Jeff Martin’s Wildfire Restaurant Group is the local franchisee behind the new Blaze.

Josh Levitt, a PR representative for Blaze Pizza, told Mainebiz that the business is expected to hold a grand opening on Dec. 17.

“We will be doing a free pizza day for the community that day,” said Levitt. “Show up and get a free pizza; no purchase is necessary. The first 25 people in line will also win free pizza for a year.”

Founded in 2011, Blaze Pizza is a fast-casual pizza franchise with more than 330 restaurants across 38 states and six countries. Blaze is headquartered in Los Angeles.

Other openings and closings

After 52 years, Vic & Whit's, a delicatessen located at 206 Main St. in Saco, plans to close. Owner Mark Johnston plans to retire, and the shop will officially close on Dec. 31.

Dizzy Birds Rotisserie, at 65 Main St. in Biddeford, plans to close on Dec. 31. According to the Saco Bay News, the owners plan to continue operating the catering business and are working on a franchise model. The restaurant was known for its rotisserie chicken and homestyle cooking.

Moe’s Original BBQ plans to move from South Portland to Scarborough. The operator said in a social media post that after 10 years at their South Portland location, at 209 Western Ave., the business will move to Scarborough, at 450 Payne Road, in the plaza next to Bull Moose. The owners haven’t set an opening date but have closed the South Portland location to start moving equipment.

Events

It's time to get into the holiday spirit, and what better way to do that than to attend Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery's annual holiday open house.
