From the Publisher: Moving ahead at Mainebiz

This marks our first month post-Donna. That’s longtime Mainebiz publisher Donna Brassard — who first took the reigns in 1999 when our company purchased Mainebiz from its founder Jonathan Whitney.

For the next 22 years her steady hand guided Mainebiz as it grew, expanded its statewide presence and garnered a slew of national editorial and design awards along the way. Donna’s planned retirement finally arrived as she marked her last day with Mainebiz on March 31.

While I’m new to the publishers role at Mainebiz, I’m not new to the company. My name has been on the masthead of the publication since 1999, and over the years I’ve been to countless Mainebiz events around the state where I’ve felt the impact we have on the community, and the responsibility that goes with it.

As a co-owner of the company along with my business partner, Tom Curtin, I’ve always had enormous pride in this publication and the team of skilled professionals that produces it. So let’s talk about that team.

Too often a leader with a big personality and a strong hand on the wheel can play such an outsized role that the people around them don’t develop their own leadership skills. In Donna’s case, that did not happen. Yes, she was indeed a charismatic boss, but, she also had been planning her retirement for years, and made getting our leadership team ready for that eventual transition a real priority. Like most companies, our people are our #1 asset — and we’ve got a terrifically talented team at Mainebiz ready to meet the moment.

We have an experienced, extraordinary staff. Our management team is Peter Van Allen, our longtime editor; Andrea Tetzlaff, our sales director; Alison Nason, who manages operations and events; Matt Selva, our art director, and Valerie Clark, who heads up audience development.

While I’m proud of all that Mainebiz has achieved, I’m also excited about the path we’re on and what we can accomplish together in the future. Delivering unique value to our readers, our advertisers and the community remains at the heart of our mission. We appreciate the time and attention you give Mainebiz, and remain committed to continuing to meet, and hopefully exceed your expectations. Let us know how we’re doing.
