The strong fund raising by Maine companies this year is continuing with two Feb. 4 filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
North Star Brands LLC of Portland is trying to raise $775,000 in an equity offering filed by its founder and CEO Jeffery T. Johnson. The offering has yet to go on sale, but when it does the minimum investment from outside investors is $25,000.
North Star, formed in September 2014, has among its trademark brands Stroudwater Spirits. Johnson announced last October that Stroudwater, a distillery, has leased a 5,000-square-foot space for a production facility, tasting room and private event space in the “Brick North” building at Thompson’s Point, a development in a former rail yard abutting the Fore River in Portland,. It plans to make small-batch bourbon, whiskey, vodka and gin.
Johnson could not be reached for comment about when the funding would open and how the funds would be used by press time. Johnson also is owner of The Paint Pot and president of Fiddlers Green LLC, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In a second SEC filing Thursday, residential real estate company Schlotterbeck Holdings LLC, also of Portland, raised all of a $1,175,000 equity offering with the first date of sale on Jan. 22 of this year.
