Garelick to close Bangor production plant
Garelick Farms will close its Bangor production facility and lay off 35 employees as the company consolidates those operations with facilities in Massachusetts and New York.
The Bangor Daily News reported that officials from Garelick, owned by Texas-based Dean Foods, cited increasing competition as the reason for the move.
The company’s Bangor distribution plant, which employs 38 people, will remain in operation, the BDN reported.
Jamaison Schuler, a Dean Foods spokesman, told the paper that negotiations with the labor union representing affected workers are still under way.
