Gas prices in Maine increase for second week

For the second week in a row, gas prices in Maine have increased, as the average price for a gallon of gas in the state rose by three cents to $2.22.

During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas also rose by four cents to $2.22, according to the price-tracking website GasBuddy.

The $2.22 statewide average in Maine reported on Tuesday morning is higher than New Hampshire's average of $2.14 per gallon, but a penny lower than the $2.23 price per gallon in Vermont.

“As the summer driving season wraps up, gasoline prices have risen for 14 consecutive days, thanks in large part due to a late-summer rally in oil markets, driven by OPEC threats," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analysis. "While the final note may be a bit sour, the sweetness of what is still the cheapest summer gas in a decade will linger.”
