The town of Gorham department of community development has appointed Lea Duffy as the town's new economic development specialist.
She began her new role on Dec. 13.
The economic development specialist is a facilitator and liaison between the business community, town staff, boards, committees and other entities to streamline the small business development process.
In this new role, Duffy supports business growth in Gorham by working directly with small business owners and entrepreneurs to help them understand and navigate the municipal process for starting and operating a business in Gorham.
She will assist the economic development director, Kevin Jensen.
Duffy brings nearly 30 years of professional experience. Her expertise includes architecture and design, project development management and hospitality.
"Lea's background in real estate, architecture, development, and the hospitality/tourism industry as both an employee and an owner will no doubt help us find new and improved ways to support the local business community," the town said in a press release.
Duffy and her husband relocated to Gorham in 2023 to be closer to family.
The Oregon native attended Washington State University, where she received a degree in architecture. She was a principal architect and project manager in the Seattle area with projects focused on multi-family housing, senior care and health care facilities. Beyond traditional design services, she specialized in feasibility studies and master planning.
Duffy and her husband later opened a bed-and-breakfast in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. In 2020, after owning and operating the business for 10 years, she sold the business started Sante by Design, a residential design practice with her husband. She also obtained her real estate license.
