Microwave Techniques LLC, a Gorham-based industrial holding company created from last year's merger between Mega Industries, of Gorham, with Ferrite Microwave Technologies of Nashua, N.H., unveiled an M&A deal of its own on Wednesday,
The holding company, led by President and CEO Peter V. Anania, said it has acquired all of the assets and intellectual property of Industrial Microwave Systems LLC, a Raleigh, N.C.-based designer of microwave systems used in industries from chemicals to textiles. The seller was Laitram LLC, a Harahan, La.-based global manufacturer with 11 locations worldwide.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The combined entity currently has 93 employees but is still growing and hiring to support the recent activity, according to a spokesman for Microwave Techniques.
Anania told Mainebiz last year that closing the Ferrite acquisition had posed posed no major challenges except for defense contract timing issues, and the fact that Mega Industries changed banks in the middle of the deal talks.
The North Carolina acquisition gives Microwave Techniques three manufacturing facilities in Maine and New Hampshire. The company said it's now in a unique position in the microwave industry, combining the design and manufacturing of the most advanced high power microwave parts with end-to-end-industrial microwave development.
The high-power microwave parts design and manufacturing division is based in Gorham, while the industrial microwave systems group is based in Nashua, N.H. A move to a larger facility in Nashua is planned for this fall to support Ferrite's growth and the product line that comes with the acquisition of Industrial Microwave Systems.
The systems group plans to move into a larger facility this fall to support Industrial Microwave Systems production and its continued growth, according to Wednesday's announcement.
“We are excited to add IMS’s team and innovated portfolio of patented products into the group.” said Scott Knoll, a partner with Microwave Techniques ownership group.
“We have always seen strong demand for a fluid-based microwave systems, so adding IMS’s patented fluid applicator unit is highly strategic, Knoll added. "Combining with our rapidly growing components business, we can now offer all segments of the high power microwave industry a one-stop shop for components, systems and specialized microwave design services.”
Microwave Techniques was originally a microwave, radio frequency and broadcast company in Raymond founded in the early 1970s. The brand was acquired by Mega Industries in 1991.
After Mega Industries merged with Ferrite in 2020, Microwave Techniques was reinstituted last year as a holding company.
