Gov. candidate spending totals $3M

The five candidates running for governor have spent a combined $3 million for their campaigns, according to spending reports filed with the state.

As of Sept. 14, Republican Paul LePage has spent a total of $402,412 on his campaign, with $398,378 collected between July 14 and Sept. 14, according to The Associated Press. Independent candidate Eliot Cutler has spent $1.2 million, and Democratic candidate Libby Mitchell, who is receiving public funding through the Clean Election Act, has spent $1 million. Additionally, Independent Shawn Moody spent $382,197 and Independent Kevin Scott spent $16,742, according to reports filed with the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices.

The bulk of the money was spent on media ads, staffing and office expenses, according to The AP.
