“Greenlight Maine,” the television series in which entrepreneurs compete for a cash prize to help take their startups to the next level, is launching a college version.
Sunday will mark the debut of the “Greenlight Maine Collegiate Challenge,” featuring some of Maine’s best college-age entrepreneurs.
The show will air 10 a.m. Sundays on WCSH, kicking off March 10 with two teams from the University of Maine.
Greenlight Maine is produced by Portland Media Group, a custom content and production company founded by Brian Corcoran, CEO of Shamrock Sports & Entertainment; Nat Thompson, former producer and owner of WCSH; and Con Fullam, a television producer and music composer.
The new series announcement comes less than a week after “Greenlight Maine” unveiled the finalists in the regular show for the $100,000 prize to be Ocean’s Balance of Biddeford, Flowfold of Gorham and American Roots of Westbrook. The latter two were featured in the latest Mainebiz print edition, which focuses on manufacturing.
“The Collegiate Challenge is an exciting new series to build upon the success of Greenlight Maine with the next generation of start-ups,” Corcoran said in a Thursday news release. “ If these collegiate entrepreneurs are any indication to the economic growth and related jobs in Maine — the future is very bright.”
He told Mainebiz that the new show “reinforces our commitment to future growth of ‘Greenlight Maine,’ ” and that he and his partners “are putting our best foot forward to provide related intellectual and financial capital to the next chapter of startups in our great state.”
College entrepreneurs in the first season will compete for a $25,000 prize, which is to be awarded on April 14.
