Greenville biomass facility has new owner

A Texas energy company has bought an idled biomass facility in Greenville and has recalled laid-off staff.

Dallas-based Tang Energy bought the 19-megawatt biomass boiler from NextEra Energy in late November and created a subsidiary called Gallop Power Greenville, according to the Bangor Daily News. The company has recalled 22 workers laid off when NextEra closed the plant in March 2009, and plans to add another position, plant manager Paul Anderson told the paper.

The plant burns about 180,000-200,000 tons of wood chips a year to generate electricity, according to the paper.
